Steven Greffenius, a long-time technical writer and editor, and STC and Boston/New England Chapter member, passed away on 6 February 2024.
Steve graduated from Reed College with a degree in history and later earned a Ph.D. in political science at the University of Iowa. He served in the US Navy as an electronic materials officer maintaining shipboard communications and radar equipment. He taught politics at institutions of higher learning in the US and China. In 1997 he moved to the Boston area and became a technical writer and editor, working in a wide range of subjects. He published several books on technical writing, history, and politics, and maintained an online journal on political ethics, democracy, and public affairs.
Steve served the Chapter in a number of roles, including speaker at several programs (most recently in 2021), member of the Administrative Council, and President in 2007–2008. He also graciously hosted council meetings. Most recently he served as the job bank coordinator.
Steve is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
A celebration of life for Steve will be held on Saturday, 9 March 2024 at 4:00 PM at the Powissett Lodge (Hale Reservation), Carby Street, Westwood, MA.
