Planning for the Holidays – New England Chapter

Planning for the Holidays

Steve Jong

The holiday season is here, and STC New England is planning both festive and educational events. We’re looking at joining with another organization to co-host a mid-winter social event after the first of the year. It should be fun. Stay tuned!

In February, we plan to team up with the Boston DITA User’s Group to offer a panel discussion on DITA conversion. We’d like to have one or two of our members join the panel to describe how the process went for them. I know some of you have experience and anecdotes about the process. If you’re willing to share, please get in touch with me at president@stcnewengland.org.

We are looking for additional volunteers to contribute to our menu of offerings to members. If you have a few hours a month you can lend to us, we would appreciate it. Please check out the list of open positions.

April is on the other side of winter now, but it’s not too early to think about InterChange 2020. Save the dates: April 24–25, 2020, back at the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center. We’ve opened the call for presenters, and we’re hoping for our best conference yet!

Finally, we have an opportunity to offer an API workshop next year from a leading authority in the field, who has conducted workshops around the country to excellent reviews. API writing is one of the most lucrative specialities in our profession, and if it’s something you’re about to work on or want to get into, the workshop is a great investment to gain expertise and improve your chances of success. But before we make any commitments we need to gauge local interest. Watch for a survey to come soon and let us know what you think.
