Getting the Chapter Year Off to a Good Start – New England Chapter

Getting the Chapter Year Off to a Good Start

Steve Jong

September is the end of summer but the start of the Chapter year. Our first program is a joint presentation with the Philadelphia Metro Chapter on Wednesday, October 9, 7 pm. Our own Neil Perlin will present: “From RoboCop and HLMT to the Future – Don’t Repeat Past Mistakes.” This is a virtual presentation. To register, go to Eventbrite.

It’s also membership renewal season at STC. Dues remain the same as last year, so you can renew now and enjoy membership through the end of 2020. When you renew, don’t forget to include membership in the New England Chapter for just $25 more. Chapter membership brings reduced admission to Chapter events. As an incentive, we will award a free 2020 program admission to someone who joins the Chapter between now and the end of the year.

Planning for InterChange 2020 has begun. We will be returning to the University of Massachusetts Lowell Inn and Conference Center on Friday and Saturday, April 24–25, 2020. A conference doesn’t just happen—it needs volunteers behind the scenes to help ensure everything runs smoothly. We could use additional help in these areas:

  • On-site volunteers/logistics: Come early each day and help with setup; stay late each day and help with breakdown
  • Speaker selection/management: Help pick this year’s speakers, and then work with them to ensure their success
  • Venue liaison: Work with the venue to ensure no surprises

Please consider volunteering to help make the program successful.

Unfortunately, Cathy Putnam, whom we elected as a Councilor at Large, is seeing her career take a different direction, and she has had to step aside. Under the Bylaws the Council has the ability to appoint additional members, and we want more member representation on the Council. If you are interested in serving in this capacity, or you want more information about what’s involved before you make a commitment, please get in touch with me at president@stcnewengland.org.
